Zoox PM interview guide

Zoox runs a roughly 4 to 6 week, 5 to 7 stage PM loop: a recruiter screen, a product take-home, then a panel of product sense, execution, and strategy rounds, capped by a leader sign-off. The thing that defines it: every prompt is grounded in Zoox's actual robotaxi business, so generic PM frameworks fall flat unless you can reason about autonomous vehicles, fleet operations, and rider experience as a real product.

The interview process

1. Recruiter screen (30 to 45 min). Phone call on your background, motivation, and why Zoox specifically. The recruiter checks role fit and culture alignment, plus a basic read on whether you understand the autonomous vehicle space.
2. Take-home assignment (3 to 5 days). A strategic or analytical exercise: a product plan, a data analysis, or a written/presented recommendation. They are scoring structured thinking, prioritization, and how clearly you communicate a recommendation.
3. Product sense round (45 min). Design or improve a Zoox product surface, usually the rider experience or an operational tool for autonomous vehicles. They want user empathy for a robotaxi context and the ability to turn a fuzzy goal into concrete features.
4. Product execution round (45 min). Define success metrics and run root-cause analysis on a Zoox scenario (a ratings drop, a slip in pickup success, longer ride times). They test metric selection, analytical rigor, and trade-off reasoning in an AV operations setting.
5. Product strategy round (60 min). Market, launch, pricing, and expansion questions for Zoox's robotaxi service. They look for a point of view on growth in a capital-heavy, regulated, full-stack business, not textbook strategy.
6. Technical deep dive (up to 60 min). Discussion of how AV systems, sensors, and AI/ML constraints shape product decisions. You don't need to code, but you must be fluent enough to make trade-offs with engineers on a full-stack hardware-plus-software product.
7. Leader / executive sign-off (45 min). Final round with a senior leader on leadership, culture fit, and long-term vision. This is the go/no-go conversation that confirms judgment and mission alignment.
8. What they're really testing. Three signals carry the most weight: (1) genuine domain fluency in autonomous vehicles, fleet operations, and rider experience, not surface-level buzzwords; (2) trade-off and first-principles reasoning under the real constraints of a regulated, capital-heavy robotaxi business; and (3) clear, structured communication that engineers and leaders both trust.
