Allstate PM interview guide

Allstate's PM loop runs about 3 to 4 weeks (candidates report ~29 days) across roughly four stages: a 30-minute recruiter screen, an often pre-recorded video interview, then live technical and panel rounds with cross-functional interviewers. The one thing that defines it: a resume-driven Behavioral Description Interview (BDI) format that digs into your past projects and pushes hard on how your work measurably helped real customers.

The interview process

1. Recruiter screen (about 30 min). Phone call with a recruiter on your background, past projects, and why Allstate. Mostly basic behavioral questions plus a check on whether you understand the role and the insurance domain.
2. Pre-recorded video interview (often within 48 hours). A one-way video where you record answers to a set of preset behavioral and situational questions inside a time window. They are screening communication and STAR-structured stories about past experience before spending live time.
3. Technical / product round (video). Live conversation that goes deep on your resume: each project, why you chose a given approach or tech stack, and how it helped customers. Often includes a product-sense prompt such as defining a product strategy for a new insurance technology, and for analyst-leaning roles, SQL and data questions.
4. Panel and senior rounds (30 to 60 min each; a VP round can run ~2 hours). Multiple interviewers from across product, compliance, actuarial, and project management, sometimes a 2-hour Product Manager VP session followed by peer rounds. They test cross-functional collaboration, business context, and how you handle pushback on your recommendations.
5. What they're really testing. Customer obsession (can you tie every project to a real customer outcome), measurable impact told in clean BDI/STAR stories, and cross-functional influence with compliance, actuarial, and leadership stakeholders in a regulated insurance setting.
