Workiva PM interview guide

Workiva runs a roughly 3 to 5 week PM loop of about 4 to 6 stages: a recruiter screen, a hiring-manager round, a functional panel (other PMs plus engineering and design leads), and in most loops a take-home case or presentation that you defend live to the team. The thing that defines the loop is that presentation: Workiva wants to see you frame a product problem in its regulated reporting and compliance domain, then communicate a strategy and roadmap clearly to a cross-functional audience.

The interview process

1. Recruiter screen (30 to 60 min). Phone call with a recruiter on your background, your reason for Workiva, and logistics like compensation and timeline. They check baseline fit with the PM role and Workiva's collaborative culture before passing you on.
2. Hiring manager interview (45 to 60 min). A mix of behavioral and product questions with the PM lead you would report to. They probe how you drive strategy, handle conflict, and partner with engineering, usually expecting STAR-structured stories.
3. Functional panel interviews. Several back-to-back sessions split by function: product thinking with other PMs, technical feasibility with engineering managers, and usability with design leads. Each session tests how you collaborate and influence that specific partner without direct authority.
4. Take-home case or presentation. Most PM loops include a case study or presentation: you analyze a product scenario relevant to Workiva's reporting and compliance platform, then present findings, a roadmap, and recommendations to a wider panel. Graded on strategic thinking, prioritization, and how clearly you communicate to stakeholders.
5. Final / leadership conversation. A closing discussion with senior product or executive leadership on your long-term vision for the role and your read on Workiva's strategy. More of a values-and-direction fit check than a fresh case.
6. What they're really testing. Three signals carry the most weight: strategy and roadmap thinking (can you own a multi-year roadmap and pick needle-moving bets), stakeholder influence and cross-functional collaboration (can you align PMs, engineering, and design without authority), and data-driven decisions (can you back choices with metrics and validation, not opinion).
