Waymo's PM interview is a rigorous, AV-specific loop that probes product design, strategy, analytical/execution depth, technical collaboration with engineering, and behavioral leadership through real autonomous-driving scenarios (simulation, safety validation, rider features). The process typically runs a recruiter screen, a hiring-manager/first product round, and a 4-5 interview onsite loop over roughly 4-8 weeks.

The interview process

1. Recruiter phone screen (45 min). Initial alignment on your background, PM experience, location preferences, and interest in autonomous vehicles. The recruiter covers the role and company and probes both technical depth and project-management experience.
2. Hiring manager / first product round. A 45-60 min screen with a hiring manager or current PM featuring a couple of product-design questions and execution/problem-structuring, often touching AV scenarios such as a rider app feature or a safety improvement.
3. Onsite interview loop (four to five 1-hour sessions). Back-to-back rounds covering Product Design/Sense (solving a pain point for a specific user, often on a whiteboard), Product Strategy (market, competition, long-term vision), Analytical Sense/Execution (metrics, diagnostics, estimation), Technical PM collaboration, and Behavioral/Leadership. Cases are frequently AV-specific (simulation, validation, safety metrics).
4. Offer stage. Managed by the recruiting team: compensation, benefits, and team-fit discussion. Candidates report an average of roughly 60 days from application to hire.
