Watershed PM interview guide

Watershed's PM loop runs about 1 to 2 weeks and is short: a recruiter/talent screen, a skill or experience screen with the hiring manager, a case study, and a panel that can run up to 3 to 4 hours. The thing that defines it is the case study: you have to reason about a real corporate-climate problem (measuring, reporting, or cutting emissions) and show you can turn it into a product plan, not just talk strategy.

The interview process

1. Recruiter / talent screen (about 30 min). A talent partner walks through your background, the role, and logistics. They check mission fit and whether your PM experience maps to enterprise climate software before passing you to the hiring manager.
2. Hiring manager / skill screen (about 45 to 60 min). A deeper conversation with the hiring manager on your experience and how you operate. They probe cross-functional product delivery, prioritization under pressure, and how seriously you take the decarbonization mission.
3. Case study (about 1 to 2 hours). A climate-software product or strategy case, often framed around a customer problem like helping a client measure or cut emissions and stay compliant with reporting rules. Candidates report this is the round people most often fail, so structure matters: define the problem, propose a solution, and say how you would measure success.
4. Panel interview with the team (about 3 to 4 hours). Hiring managers, team leads, and potential teammates go deep on your past work, product judgment, and culture fit. The long runtime lets each interviewer dig into the areas they care about, from execution detail to how you reason about the climate domain.
5. What they're really testing. Three signals carry the most weight: genuine mission conviction about decarbonization (not a script), product judgment on a hard enterprise-data and compliance problem shown live in the case study, and cross-functional execution, meaning you can ship a complex product with engineering, design, and customer-facing teams.
