Upstart PM interview guide

The Upstart PM loop runs roughly 3 weeks from recruiter call to decision and has 6 stages: recruiter screen, hiring manager screen, and 4 structured onsite rounds each mapped to a named competency (impact and execution, values, stakeholder management, strategy and vision). The interview process

1. Recruiter screen (30-45 min). Phone or video call covering your background, experience, and understanding of Upstart's mission as an AI lending marketplace. The recruiter assesses culture fit and explains role responsibilities before deciding whether to advance you.
2. Hiring manager screen (30-60 min). Deeper conversation with the hiring manager on your product experience and why you want this role. Expect the HM to probe your understanding of Upstart's business model and your track record of measurable impact.
3. Onsite round 1: Impact and execution. Behavioral and situational questions focused on shipped products, measurable outcomes, and how you drove results. Interviewers look for concrete KPIs and clear ownership.
