TikTok PM interview guide

TikTok's PM interview is a remote, multi-round loop (often a recruiter screen plus up to ~4-6 PM-led interviews spanning product sense/design, execution/analytical, strategy, and behavioral, sometimes a light technical round and a senior/VP conversation). Cases lean heavily on TikTok's own surfaces (FYP recommendation algorithm, TikTok Shop, TikTok Live, UGC) and on metrics, prioritization, and trade-off reasoning.

The interview process

1. Recruiter / phone screen. A 30-45 min call covering your background, side projects, communication, motivation for TikTok, and familiarity with the app. Often the most competitive gate given application volume.
2. Hiring manager interview. A 45-60 min conversation on working style, cross-functional collaboration, and past project leadership.
3. Product sense / product design interview. Case-based scenarios testing user-centered thinking, opportunity identification, feature ideation, and prioritization, frequently anchored on TikTok products (FYP, Shop, Live, UGC).
4. Execution / analytical interview. Estimation, metric definition, A/B-test design, roadmap prioritization, and diagnosing metric drops (e.g. a DAU decline) under ambiguity.
5. Behavioral interview. STAR-based questions on conflict, influence without authority, stakeholder alignment, and cultural fit; interviewers usually leave 5-10 min for your questions.
6. Senior leadership / additional phone rounds (role-dependent). Up to 6 phone interviews can stack PMs of escalating seniority (PM, Head of PM, GM, VP); some roles add a light technical/systems round and a final HR values-fit conversation. An on-site is traditional but sometimes waived after the phone loop.
