The interview process

1. Recruiter phone screen (30 to 45 min). HR or a recruiter-lead call focused on your background, experience, and fit for the role. Target uses this round to brief candidates on the PM role specifics and company culture before advancing them.
2. Hiring manager screen (30 to 45 min, typically virtual). The hiring manager reviews your PM track record and career trajectory. Expect SBO-framed behavioral questions and a discussion of what you would bring to the specific team or product area.
3. Cross-functional stakeholder interviews (3 to 4 rounds, 30 to 45 min each, virtual or on-site HQ). You meet separately with an engineering stakeholder, a business stakeholder, and a skip-level product leader. Each session mixes past-experience behavioral questions with a situational problem-solving exercise; the engineering round typically includes a lightweight systems-design question.
4. Culture and values fit round (HR, 30 min). A closing conversation run by HR or a people-team lead. Focus is on Target's core values and how you have demonstrated them in real situations, still in SBO format.
5. What they're really testing. Three signals dominate: (1) behavioral depth in SBO stories with concrete outcomes, (2) cross-functional credibility shown through how you have worked with engineering and business partners, and (3) retail and product-lifecycle fluency, meaning your ability to apply product thinking in a large omnichannel retail context.
