Squarespace PM interview guide

Squarespace runs a roughly 3-stage, 3-week PM loop: a 30-minute recruiter screen, a 1-hour hiring-manager or senior-PM conversation, then an onsite of about 4 to 5 hours with PMs and engineers covering analytical, product sense, leadership, and a feature presentation. The loop is defined by design-first product sense: candidates who lean on metrics at the expense of user experience get dinged, so you have to balance data with craft on a non-technical, design-driven product.

The interview process

1. Recruiter screen (30 min). Phone call reviewing your background, interest in the role, and how the generalist PM loop works. Light qualification and culture-fit framing, no product cases yet.
2. Hiring manager / senior PM screen (about 60 min). You walk through a feature you recently shipped from discovery to launch, and discuss a product you like and how you would improve it. They probe your end-to-end product thinking and whether your decisions are user-centric, not just metric-driven.
3. Take-home / presentation prep. Some loops send a dataset or prompt a day before the onsite and ask you to prepare a case study or product presentation to deliver live. The artifact is judged on structure, clarity, and how you reason about trade-offs.
4. Onsite loop (about 4 to 5 hours, 4 to 5 rounds). Multiple back-to-back rounds with PMs and engineers spanning analytical (SQL, defining metrics, building a dashboard), product sense, leadership/behavioral, and a feature presentation to your potential future team. Each session runs roughly 30 to 60 minutes.
5. What they're really testing. 1) Design-driven product sense: can you improve a non-technical, design-heavy product while balancing simplicity, customization, and conversion, without over-indexing on metrics. 2) End-to-end execution: discovery through launch, defining the right metrics, and analytical rigor (SQL, dashboards). 3) Collaboration and leadership: how you work with engineers and designers and handle hard conversations with stakeholders and leadership.
