Sierra PM interview guide

Sierra's Agent PM loop runs 4 to 6 stages over roughly 2 to 4 weeks: recruiter screen, an early AI system-design filter, a take-home case study, a live case-study presentation plus metrics interview, a stakeholder and product-sense interview, and a behavioral deep dive. The one defining feature: every round is anchored to real enterprise AI deployment scenarios, not abstract PM frameworks.

The interview process

  1. Recruiter screen (30 min). A background and fit call covering your experience, motivation to join Sierra, and comp expectations. Recruiters specifically check for B2B and enterprise-facing PM track record; high-growth startup experience is a strong plus.
  2. System design and AI tech screen (early filter). Tests whether you understand how AI agents actually work and can design a system for a real enterprise integration. This round arrives unusually early: at least one candidate went through it before the interviewer had reviewed their resume. Evaluated on RAG, MCP, memory types, quality controls, agent performance metrics, and how data flows between Sierra and a customer.
  3. Take-home case study (async). A written prioritization and roadmap exercise built around real constraints: competing customers, limited resources, and conflicting stakeholder pressure. One reported assignment asked candidates to build a one-week roadmap with one engineer, draft stakeholder communications, and explain what they would tell a VP pushing to launch the largest customer immediately.
  4. Case study presentation plus metrics and prioritization interview (60 min, live). You present your take-home, then immediately work through a separate live case study on product execution and metrics. Interviewers probe your reasoning on metric-down diagnosis, prioritization tradeoffs, and how you handle competing demands in real time.
  5. Stakeholder management and product-sense interview. A product-building exercise that asks how you would scope and build for a specific enterprise customer integrating Sierra. One candidate was asked to design for a large bank; another faced traditional stakeholder-conflict behavioral questions. Be ready for both.
  6. Fit and behavioral interview. Opens with 'tell me about yourself,' then zeroes in on one specific product you mention and does not let go. Follow-up questions cover discovery, ownership, execution, success metrics, and what you would do differently. Sierra's values may shape the follow-up questions, so know them before this round.
  7. What they're really testing. Three signals dominate: (1) customer understanding, meaning how well you grasp the needs of a large enterprise integrating an AI product; (2) practical thinking, meaning whether your proposed solution would actually work in a real deployment; (3) tradeoff reasoning, meaning how you justify prioritization decisions when stakeholder interests conflict.
