Rivian PM interview guide

Rivian's PM loop runs about 3 to 5 stages over roughly two to three weeks: a recruiter screen, a hiring manager round, and a virtual onsite of 4 to 5 back-to-back interviews with peers, engineers, designers, and cross-functional partners, sometimes plus a take-home case you present to a panel. The one thing that defines it: judgment over frameworks, scored through the PSI structure (Problem, Solution, Impact) on real decisions you made in a hardware-plus-software world.

The interview process

1. Recruiter screen (30 min). Phone or video on your motivation for Rivian, your PM background, and your fit for the level. They check basics and your interest in software-defined vehicles before passing you on.
2. Hiring manager round (45 to 60 min). Heavily behavioral and execution-focused, usually run through Rivian's PSI framework (Problem, Solution, Impact). Expect deep dives into past decisions, trade-offs, and ownership moments, with the manager pushing on what you personally drove and the measurable result.
3. Take-home case and panel presentation (optional, varies by team). Some teams assign a product or strategy case, then have you present to a panel and defend it live. They judge how you structure thinking, clarify assumptions, and defend trade-offs far more than slide polish; nominally scoped to a couple of hours but candidates report it running longer.
4. Virtual onsite (4 to 5 interviews). The most rigorous stage: back-to-back rounds with peers, engineers, designers, and cross-functional partners that simulate the day-to-day. Covers product sense, execution and metrics, cross-functional collaboration, and behavioral, with EV and software-defined-vehicle context throughout.
5. What they're really testing. Three signals dominate: judgment and principled trade-offs under hardware-plus-software constraints (not textbook frameworks); ownership and clear impact, told PSI-style with quantified outcomes; and cross-functional clarity, meaning you can communicate and align with engineering, design, and operations.
