Redfin PM interview guide

Redfin's PM loop runs about 3 to 5 weeks across four stages: a recruiter phone screen, a multi-day take-home (a 3 to 5 page PRD), a hiring-manager or director interview, and an onsite panel of PMs and a designer. The defining feature is that written take-home PRD: Redfin wants to see how you scope, structure, and reason about a real product on paper before you ever walk through it live.

The interview process

1. Recruiter phone screen (30 min). A recruiter covers your background, your interest in Redfin and in PM, and logistics. It is a fit and motivation filter: be ready to say why Redfin and why product specifically, since both come up here.
2. Take-home assignment (3 to 5 page PRD, several days). You get a product prompt and roughly 5 days to write a 3 to 5 page PRD. Reported prompts include improving an existing product's feature (for example, Amazon's list feature). They evaluate how you scope a problem, structure a written doc, define success metrics, and reason about tradeoffs without hand-holding.
3. Director or hiring-manager interview (45 min). A video call with a director of product or the hiring manager. Most of it walks through your resume, your past product work, and your take-home: expect to defend your PRD choices and answer why Redfin and why PM.
4. Final panel (3 PMs and 1 designer). A multi-interviewer onsite covering product design and improvement (often on Redfin's own site and products), execution, and behavioral questions. They probe how you use data to drive decisions and how you work with stakeholders and design.
5. What they're really testing. Three signals carry the most weight: clear written product thinking (the PRD is the spine of the loop), data-driven decision-making backed by concrete metrics, and real-estate product sense plus collaboration with PMs and designers on Redfin's actual products.
