Ping Identity PM interview guide

Ping Identity's PM loop runs roughly 3 weeks (about 20 days on average) across 4 to 5 stages: a recruiter screen, a CCAT/personality assessment, a technical or product round, a behavioral round, and a final round with senior leadership or the Director of Product Management. The one thing that defines it: every round is filtered through identity, fraud, and risk, so they want a PM who can talk product strategy in the security domain, not generic product sense.

The interview process

1. Recruiter screen (about 30 min). Phone call with a recruiter who walks through the role and gauges interest. They probe your product management background, especially any fraud detection, cybersecurity, or AI experience, to confirm domain fit before advancing you.
2. Online assessment (CCAT / personality test). Candidates across roles report a Criteria Cognitive Aptitude Test plus a personality assessment early in the loop. It is a timed screen of reasoning and aptitude, not role specific.
3. Technical / product round (video). Video interview focused on analyzing market requirements, building product strategy, and using metrics for quantitative analysis. Interviewers pose hypothetical product scenarios set in the cybersecurity and identity space and look at how you measure success post launch.
4. Behavioral round. Assesses interpersonal skills and culture fit through past examples of team collaboration, conflict resolution, and leadership. They want evidence you can drive cross functional work, not just describe it.
5. Case study or presentation (role dependent). Some candidates are asked to complete a case study or present, for example analyzing a market trend or laying out a product strategy. Used to see your structured thinking and communication on a real problem.
6. Final round with leadership / Director of Product Management. Meeting with senior leadership about your strategic vision and how you would drive innovation in the Protect, Risk, and Fraud product line. They test long term thinking and your grasp of the competitive identity landscape.
7. What they're really testing. Three signals carry the most weight: (1) domain credibility in identity, fraud, and risk, since the role owns that product line; (2) data driven product judgment, meaning you pick the right metrics and use them to justify decisions; and (3) cross functional leadership, shown through concrete examples of aligning sales, marketing, and engineering.
