OpenTable PM interview guide

OpenTable runs a roughly 2 to 4 week PM loop of about 5 stages: a recruiter call, a hiring manager screen, a take-home product case you present live to a panel of 5 to 6 people, and 1:1 rounds with 5 cross-functional stakeholders from design, product, and engineering. The defining feature is that take-home case plus panel presentation, where you prioritize and defend a real OpenTable product problem in front of the people you would work with.

The interview process

1. Recruiter screen (30 min). Phone call covering your background, interest in OpenTable, and logistics. Recruiters are reported as very communicative and walk you through exactly what each later round looks like.
2. Hiring manager screen (45 min, video). Video call with the hiring manager about the role and your fit. Expect early behavioral questions plus a discussion of how you think about product, often anchored to a product you have shipped.
3. Product deep dive with senior PMs. You walk senior PMs through a product you have worked on, your decisions, and tradeoffs. They probe how you reason about users, metrics, and prioritization, not just the outcome.
4. Take-home case plus panel presentation (45 min). You get a take-home product assignment, then present your case live to a panel of 5 to 6 people. They evaluate structure, prioritization framework, and how well you defend choices under questioning.
5. Cross-functional 1:1s (5 stakeholders). Back-to-back 1:1s with about 5 people from design, product, engineering, and adjacent teams. A mix of behavioral, product-sense, execution, technical, and strategy questions to test collaboration and depth.
6. What they're really testing. Three signals dominate: product sense for OpenTable's two-sided diner-and-restaurant marketplace (can you spot and fix the real pain points), a clear prioritization framework you can defend under pressure in the panel, and cross-functional collaboration with design and engineering.
