Okta runs a fairly short, structured PM loop: a recruiter screen, then an onsite of roughly three rounds (HR behavioral, a product case with a team member, and career/ambition questions with a Pillar lead), with reported time-to-hire averaging about 22 days. The one thing that defines the loop is that it leans behavioral and motivation-heavy as much as product-sense: a clean product case matters, but expect equal weight on past initiative, dealing with opposed stakeholders, and where you want to grow.

The interview process

1. Recruiter screen (about 30 min). Phone call with a recruiter to cover the role, your background, and motivations. Candidates describe the recruiter as very responsive and the screen as a light, structured filter.
2. HR / behavioral round. A behavioral interview that probes past initiative, failures, and how you work through conflict and opposition. Okta is looking for concrete, owned examples and self-awareness, not polished theory.
3. Product round with a team member. A working PM gives you a product-sense or case prompt (product design, a market-entry case, or metrics) and pushes on follow-ups about what to measure and how you would validate. They evaluate structured thinking, customer focus, and how you reason under follow-up questions rather than a single right answer.
4. Career and ambition round with a Pillar lead. A more senior interviewer (Pillar lead) focuses on your motivations, growth direction, and fit with the team's scope. The signal here is whether your ambitions and the role actually line up.
5. What they're really testing. Three things carry the most weight: (1) real ownership and initiative, shown through specific past projects including failures; (2) clean product reasoning under follow-ups, with customer impact and the right metrics; (3) motivation and growth fit, since the Pillar-lead round exists to check that your ambitions match the role.
