Medallia PM interview guide

Medallia runs a four to five stage Product Manager loop that typically spans two weeks to a couple of months: a recruiter screen, a hiring-manager round, a technical or case interview, behavioral rounds with senior PMs, and a final director/VP strategy round. The thing that defines the loop is a hands-on case study built around Medallia's actual domain: you present a kickoff deck or design a customer-experience admin feature and defend how you would prioritize it against real customer feedback.

The interview process

1. Recruiter screen (30 min). A phone call on your background, why Medallia, and how well you understand its customer-experience and feedback-management products. The recruiter is gauging role fit, motivation, and basic communication before passing you on.
2. Hiring manager round (45-60 min). A product-focused conversation with the PM hiring manager covering your past product work, roadmap ownership, and how you use customer feedback to drive decisions. They probe depth on the products you have shipped and how you think about prioritization.
3. Technical / case interview (60 min). Discussion of product metrics, analytics, and product sense, often asking you to design a feature or solve a case such as an admin tool for customer-experience management. Medallia is watching your structured thinking and how you measure success, not a coding screen.
4. Behavioral rounds with senior PMs and cross-functional partners (multiple, 45 min each). Several interviews with PMs, peers, and engineering or design leads on conflict, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration, answered STAR-style. Candidates report 5 or more conversations covering scenarios, prioritization exercises, business cases, and culture fit.
5. Take-home / kickoff-deck case study. A practical challenge where you build and present a product kickoff deck (or a prioritization/business case) to members of management. This is the centerpiece: they judge how you frame a problem, prioritize, and present a roadmap to a senior audience.
6. Final director / VP strategy round (45-60 min). A strategic conversation with the Director of Product or a VP on your product vision and how it aligns with Medallia's goals, including roadmap and feature-prioritization tradeoffs. They are testing executive presence and whether your thinking scales to company strategy.
7. What they're really testing. Three signals carry the most weight: product sense grounded in customer-experience and feedback data (can you design and measure a CX feature), prioritization and roadmap judgment defended against real customer input, and cross-functional communication, shown most clearly in how you present the kickoff-deck case to senior leaders.
