Macy's PM interview guide

Macy's runs a fairly standard three-stage PM loop that takes about 70 days end to end: a recruiter phone screen, a video technical and team interview, then a final round with senior leadership or cross-functional partners that can include a case study or product idea. The loop is built around one thing: proving you can turn customer needs into a prioritized roadmap and defend those trade-offs to engineering and business stakeholders in an omnichannel retail context.

The interview process

1. Recruiter phone screen (about 30 min). A recruiter walks through your background, experience, and why Macy's. They probe for a customer-centric mindset and how you anticipate customer needs, plus fit and motivation.
2. Technical / team interview (video call). Conducted by the hiring manager and team, sometimes a director. Covers product management fundamentals, how you gather customer needs and translate them into technical requirements, agile delivery, roadmap prioritization, and how clearly you communicate with cross-functional teams.
3. Final round with leadership / cross-functional partners. A deeper conversation with senior leadership or partners from engineering, analytics, and business. Includes situational questions on strategy and decision-making, and you may be asked to present a case study or a product idea that ties business goals to technical feasibility. Some candidates also report an office tour.
4. What they're really testing. Three signals carry the most weight: customer-centric product thinking (can you find a real customer need and turn it into requirements), prioritization and trade-off judgment using data and a clear scoring rationale, and cross-functional communication (can you align engineering, analytics, and business partners and resolve disagreement without losing the roadmap).
