Kalshi PM interview guide

Kalshi runs a fast, compact loop: candidates report four interviews packed into roughly a 3-day span, with total time-to-decision around 9 days. There are about four to five stages (recruiter screen, a domain/case round, a product-sense or market-design case, and behavioral plus a founder or cross-functional conversation), and the one thing that defines it is depth on prediction-market mechanics and regulation: Kalshi screens hard for whether you actually understand how its event-contract exchange works and the legal lines it operates inside.

The interview process

1. Recruiter screen (30 min). Standard background and motivation conversation covering your fit for the role and why Kalshi. They check baseline alignment and gauge genuine interest in prediction markets before advancing you.
2. Domain / financial-concepts interview (45 min). Questions about financial concepts relevant to Kalshi's products: how prediction markets price events, how they differ from traditional financial and betting markets, and the regulatory frame around them. They test whether you understand the exchange mechanics, not just the consumer surface.
3. Product-sense / market-design case (45-60 min). For PM and product/growth candidates this is a strategy or market-design case, for example bootstrapping liquidity for a new event category or improving user engagement. They evaluate structured product thinking applied to a two-sided event-contract marketplace and how you reason about metrics and risk.
4. Behavioral round (STAR). STAR-format stories on ownership, fast pivots, conflict, and operating under ambiguity, often including ambiguous regulatory situations. They look for urgency, disciplined prioritization, and cross-functional collaboration with legal, ops, engineering, and design.
5. Founder / cross-functional conversation. A conversation with founders or senior leaders (candidates report calls with team members and execs such as the CMO) on vision alignment and how you would contribute to the mission. They assess consumer taste, conviction about the product, and communication.
6. What they're really testing. Three signals dominate: (1) real fluency in prediction-market and exchange mechanics plus the regulatory constraints, (2) product judgment for a novel two-sided financial marketplace (liquidity, new categories, engagement, risk and metrics), and (3) ownership, urgency, and cross-functional collaboration in a fast, ambiguous, regulated environment.
