Jane Street PM interview guide

Jane Street's PM-equivalent role is "Strategy and Product" (SP), and the loop runs roughly four stages over a few weeks: an online assessment, one to two video interviews, and a full-day final round of multiple sessions. The defining feature is that it is built to need zero prep: instead of standard PM frameworks, you get probability puzzles, adversarial market-making games, and data-limited business cases, and they grade how fast you absorb new information and reason out loud.

The interview process

1. Online assessment (~60 min, HackerRank). Roughly 20 multiple-choice and short-answer questions across about four modules, no calculator. It tests mental math, probability, expected value, combinatorics, and logic, not coding, and screens raw quantitative reasoning before any human round.
2. Video interview(s) (1 to 2 rounds). A full-time SP team member walks you through hypothetical business scenarios and logic puzzles in real time. It is a longer-form problem-solving exercise that watches how you gather, apply, and update on new information as the problem shifts.
3. Final round (full day, onsite or virtual). Multiple back-to-back sessions plus informal conversations with the team, mixing market-design problems, probability and game-theory puzzles, data-limited product cases (pricing anomalies, latency trade-offs), and behavioral deep-dives. They reward clarifying questions and pushing problems to their natural extensions.
4. What they're really testing. Three signals dominate: speed of learning and updating when new information arrives, clear and concise reasoning communicated out loud under adversarial pushback, and sound decision-making under uncertainty. Polished frameworks and prior finance knowledge count for little next to how you actually think.
