Illumina PM interview guide

Illumina's PM loop runs roughly 3 to 5 weeks and has three to four stages: a recruiter screen, a pre-recorded HireVue video screen with about 7 set questions, then live panel rounds with the hiring manager and cross-functional stakeholders, often closing with a presentation. The interview process

1. Recruiter screen (30 min). A phone call covering your background, why Illumina, and fit. The recruiter walks you through the loop and checks for the genomics or life-sciences domain interest the role expects.
2. HireVue video screen (pre-recorded, ~7 questions). A one-way recorded interview: you answer roughly 7 set questions on camera with two practice takes before each is finalized. Mostly behavioral plus motivation, scored async with no live interaction.
3. Hiring manager and panel rounds (live). Multiple live rounds with the hiring manager and cross-functional stakeholders (users, operations, manufacturing). They probe customer-needs translation, prioritization, leading cross-functional teams, and data-driven decisions, with scenario and situational questions on Illumina's business.
4. Final round and presentation (senior management). A closing interview with senior management or the hiring manager, often a presentation showing your read of the product, market trends, and strategic vision. Expect market modeling, forecasting, and financial-analysis discussion plus long-term goals alignment.
5. What they're really testing.
