Guardian Life runs a short, low-volume PM loop: a recruiter screen, then a small set of evaluation rounds with Agile Coaches, product leaders, and engineering partners, usually wrapped up in 2 to 4 weeks. The interview process

1. Recruiter / Talent Acquisition screen (30 min). A phone call with a Talent Acquisition recruiter to confirm background, role fit, and compensation. They check basic alignment with the annuity or insurance product domain and whether your Agile experience matches the team.
2. Hiring manager / product leader round. A deeper conversation with the hiring product leader on your product management experience, how you set vision, and how you run a roadmap inside a large matrixed organization. Expect behavioral prompts on stakeholder conflict and saying no.
3. Agile Coach / delivery round. A round (sometimes with an Agile Coach) focused on SAFe practice: PI planning, managing cross-team dependencies, backlog and user-story quality, and how you keep a squad's velocity and delivery health up. This is the round candidates report as the most distinctive.
4. Engineering / cross-functional partner round. Conversations with engineering partners and other functions (operations, compliance, legal) to test how you collaborate across a regulated enterprise and translate product goals into deliverable work.
5. What they're really testing. Three signals carry the most weight: (1) real fluency with SAFe and Agile delivery (PI planning, dependencies, continuous improvement), (2) stakeholder management and prioritization inside a highly matrixed, compliance-heavy org, and (3) genuine interest in and understanding of the insurance and annuity product domain.
