Gainsight's PM loop usually runs about 4 rounds over roughly 3 to 4 weeks, starting with a recruiter screen and the timed CCAT cognitive aptitude test, then a hiring manager round, a case or deck exercise, and several values-fit conversations. The thing that defines it: scenario and behavioral questions built around Gainsight's "candor, courage, and camaraderie" values, where they want to see you own failures and deliver hard decisions yourself rather than show off frameworks.

The interview process

1. Recruiter screen (30 min). A recruiter or hiring manager walks through your background, target level, and motivation. They also set up the cognitive aptitude test and flag that values fit carries real weight here.
2. CCAT cognitive aptitude test (15 min). The Criteria Cognitive Aptitude Test: 50 questions in 15 minutes covering verbal, math, and logic. Candidates call it the hardest part of the loop; you get practice material in advance and it screens raw problem-solving speed before you meet the hiring manager.
3. Hiring manager round (30 to 45 min). Behavioral and situational questions about how you handle real PM friction: disagreements with engineering, pushback on customer requests, and owning a call that went wrong. They probe accountability and communication, not textbook frameworks.
4. Case or product exercise. A mini case or take-home where some candidates build a deck and present a comprehensive case study. PM versions include competitive strategy prompts and guesstimate or estimation questions; interviewers have a specific answer shape in mind, so structure and reasoning matter more than the number.
5. Values-fit panel (2 to 3 conversations). Several 30-minute conversations with cross-functional people, including customer success and sales partners. Gainsight uses these to test culture fit hard, looking for humility, candor, and whether you build trust by taking the blame and sharing the credit.
6. What they're really testing. Three signals dominate: accountability (will you fall on your own sword and own a bad outcome), candor and courage (will you deliver bad news and unpopular decisions yourself), and values or culture fit with their customer-success-obsessed, cross-functional way of working. Strategic product thinking is checked in the case, but the behavioral signals decide it.
