Fivetran PM interview guide

Fivetran's PM loop runs about 4 to 5 stages over roughly a month: a recruiter screen, a hiring-manager conversation, a take-home presentation where you pick one of Fivetran's connectors and present its value, schema, and key observations, then a panel and product-specific interviews. The connector presentation is the thing that defines the loop: Fivetran wants proof you understand its product and where it sits in the modern data stack, not generic PM theater.

The interview process

1. Recruiter screen (about 30 min). Phone call to walk through your background, motivation, and logistics, and to schedule the rest of the loop. Standard fit and resume calibration; candidates report it kicks off a process that runs about a month end to end.
2. Hiring manager conversation (45 to 60 min). Non-coding discussion of your product experience and how you think. Expect to talk through a product or feature you owned end to end: the problem, your approach, who you partnered with, and how you measured success.
3. Take-home presentation assignment. You pick one of Fivetran's connector products and build a presentation on its value, schema, and key observations. This is the signature round: it tests whether you actually understand Fivetran's product and the modern data stack, plus your ability to communicate a complex data topic clearly.
4. Panel presentation + Q&A. You present the connector work to a panel, followed by questions. Interviewers probe your reasoning, the tradeoffs you made, and how you handle pushback on your conclusions live.
5. Product-specific and cross-functional interviews (2+ rounds). Individual interviews covering a product problem or scenario, collaboration with engineering and design, and culture fit. You may also get a HackerRank or technical-style exercise depending on the role, and meet partner functions. Interviewers want you to go deep on ambiguity, tradeoffs, and how you define success metrics.
6. What they're really testing. Three signals carry the most weight: product judgment (picking the right problems and prioritizing with clear tradeoffs), technical depth and data fluency (real comfort with connectors, schemas, APIs, and data platforms, backed by metrics), and clear communication plus collaboration (presenting complex data simply and committing once a decision is made).
