Fastly PM interview guide

Fastly's PM loop runs about 3 to 4 weeks (Glassdoor's all-roles average is ~28 days) and is typically 5 stages: a recruiter screen, a hiring-manager round, and a panel of technical, values, and cross-team interviews, often with a take-home and an onsite/final. The thing that defines it: Fastly tests whether you can explain its edge-cloud and security products to a customer in plain terms, so deep domain fluency (CDN, edge compute, observability, and how Fastly stacks up against Cloudflare and Akamai) carries as much weight as standard PM craft.

The interview process

1. Recruiter screen (30 min). Phone or video call covering your background, why Fastly, and a fit check against the role. The recruiter probes whether your career arc maps to the team's current needs and confirms comp and logistics.
2. Hiring manager round (45 to 60 min). Conversation with the PM lead on your past product work, how you set roadmap priorities, and how you reason about tradeoffs. Expect to connect your experience to Fastly's platform and customer base.
3. Technical / product depth round (45 to 60 min). Fastly expects PMs to be technical: you may be walked through Fastly products (CDN, edge compute, security, observability) and asked to explain how a few of them work to a hypothetical customer. They check that you understand the edge-cloud domain and where Fastly sits versus competitors.
4. Take-home or case exercise. Candidates across Fastly roles commonly report a take-home assignment or scenario exercise, often followed by a short presentation. For PM, this tends to be a product or client-facing scenario where you show structured thinking and a defensible recommendation.
5. Cross-team and values interviews (panel). Two or more rounds with peers from other teams plus a dedicated values interview to test collaboration and alignment with Fastly's culture. Behavioral questions here dig into feedback, conflict, and how you operate with stakeholders.
6. Onsite / final round. The closing stage (historically onsite) bundles questions about Fastly, your experience, and scenario questions on managing client-facing projects. It is the synthesis check before a decision.
7. What they're really testing. Three signals carry the most weight: (1) domain fluency, can you explain Fastly's edge, CDN, and security products simply and position them against Cloudflare and Akamai; (2) technical-plus-product judgment, do you make smart roadmap tradeoffs across performance, cost, and customer value; and (3) values and collaboration fit, surfaced through behavioral questions about feedback and cross-team work.
