The Expedia PM interview runs roughly 30 days end-to-end and consists of 4 to 6 rounds: a recruiter screen, a hiring manager round, and then a cross-functional panel loop of 4 interviewers (PM, engineer, designer, and a director or VP). The one thing that defines the loop is its heavy weight on demonstrated execution and cross-functional collaboration over abstract strategy or consulting-style vision.

The interview process

1. Recruiter screen (30 min, phone or video). A brief qualification call covering your background and the role. Candidates report it is mostly gatekeeping and logistics, not yet substantive product questions.
2. Hiring manager round (45-60 min, video or on-site). A mix of behavioral and light product-sense questions plus a 20-minute case study or product teardown. The HM is checking for fit and baseline product judgment before spending the panel's time.
3. Senior director or skip-level screen (30-45 min). Reported for Senior PM and above. Focuses on how you have operated across teams and driven business impact, not day-to-day execution details.
4. Cross-functional panel loop (3-4 back-to-back sessions, typically half-day on-site or virtual). Separate sessions with a PM peer (product sense), an engineer (technical and execution), a designer or researcher (customer empathy), and a director or VP (strategy and leadership). Each interviewer owns one area. Candidates report the loop format is consistent and structured, with each interviewer having a pre-assigned topic.
5. What they're really testing. Three signals dominate the debrief: (1) data-driven decision-making, meaning can you define success metrics and interpret them; (2) cross-functional influence, meaning how you have gotten engineers, data scientists, and designers to move together on ambiguous problems; and (3) traveler-centric product judgment rooted in Expedia's actual marketplace context, not generic tech product thinking.
