Esri PM interview guide

Esri runs a multi-week PM loop (most candidates report two to four weeks): a 30-minute recruiter screen, a hiring-manager deep dive on your background and product approach, one or more cross-functional rounds that often include a technical or scenario discussion, and a final round with senior leadership on vision and fit. The thing that defines Esri's loop: it is a domain-heavy, customer-first GIS company, so they weigh whether you can translate real customer and spatial-data needs into product decisions far more than abstract whiteboard product-design drills.

The interview process

1. Recruiter screen (about 30 min). Phone call on your background, experience, and why Esri, plus a rundown of the role and culture. Esri checks baseline fit, communication, and genuine interest in the GIS and mapping domain.
2. Hiring manager interview. A deeper dive into your resume and past product work: how you gather customer requirements, prioritize features against market needs, and run product management day to day. They probe whether your approach maps onto Esri's customer-led product style.
3. Cross-functional and technical or scenario rounds. One or more conversations with team members across engineering and product, often including a technical or scenario discussion (GIS, web services, or SaaS concepts and how you turn customer needs into requirements). Esri assesses how you collaborate and whether you can hold a technical conversation with engineers.
4. Senior leadership round. A final conversation with senior leadership or executives focused on your long-term product vision and alignment with Esri's mission and values. This is also your window to ask about company direction.
5. What they're really testing. Three signals carry the most weight: customer obsession (can you gather and synthesize real customer needs into product decisions), domain and technical fluency (comfort with GIS, spatial data, and talking shop with engineers), and cross-functional collaboration and conflict handling as a team player rather than the person in charge.
