Collective Health PM interview guide

Collective Health runs a short, behavioral-heavy PM loop that usually wraps in about two to four weeks: a recruiter screen, a hiring manager conversation, a multi-hour take-home assignment, and an onsite with several team members. The thing that defines it is the take-home plus a heavy lean on STAR-format behavioral storytelling, not a FAANG-style product-sense gauntlet.

The interview process

1. Recruiter screen (30 min). Phone call with a recruiter covering your background, motivation, and basic fit. They check baseline qualifications and set expectations for the loop.
2. Hiring manager screen (30 min). A call with the hiring manager, often a Director of Product Management. Expect behavioral and PM-fundamentals questions, usually framed in STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) format.
3. Take-home assignment (several hours). A practical exercise you complete on your own time over several hours. It tests how you structure a problem, reason with incomplete information, and communicate a recommendation, and it becomes a discussion anchor for the onsite.
4. Onsite / panel (2 to 3+ hours). A series of interviews with various team members, including peer PMs. Rounds work through a scenario or your take-home so interviewers can watch how you use resources, problem-solve, learn, and handle stakeholders and conflict.
5. What they're really testing. Three signals carry the most weight: structured problem-solving under ambiguity and limited information, real cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management (keeping teams and difficult people aligned), and clear behavioral evidence told in STAR format that you have owned outcomes and learned from failure.
