Autodesk PM interview guide

Autodesk's PM loop runs about 4 to 6 weeks across five stages: a recruiter screen, a hiring-manager interview, a virtual onsite of 3 to 5 back-to-back sessions (product sense, execution, strategy), and a final behavioral or executive round. The thing that defines it: product questions are built on Autodesk's own design and engineering tools (AutoCAD, Revit, Fusion 360, BIM 360), so generic frameworks alone do not cut it, and every round probes how you split "we" from "me" on cross-functional work.

The interview process

1. Recruiter screen (30 min). A phone or video call covering your background, motivation for Autodesk, and a light resume walk-through. The recruiter checks basic fit and frames the loop; in some regions it may be recorded.
2. Hiring manager interview (45 min). A video conversation that goes deep on your PM experience, how you drive product strategy and execution, and how you prioritize. Expect to discuss past projects and stakeholder management.
3. Product sense round (45 min). A structured product-thinking conversation, often on an Autodesk tool: identify the core user problem in a design or engineering workflow, then reason from research to MVP. They watch your process, not a single right answer.
4. Product execution round (45 min). Metrics and data-driven decisions: how you define success, choose KPIs, and diagnose a drop. Autodesk weighs analytical rigor and expects concrete examples of using data to make calls.
5. Product strategy round (45 min). Vision and trade-offs: where a product should head, how to weigh competing bets (deep integration vs third-party reach, advanced users vs broad appeal). Tests how you think about Autodesk's market and roadmap.
6. Final behavioral or executive round (45 min). 1:1 sessions with peer PMs, an engineering manager, sometimes a design lead, plus a wrap-up with senior leadership. Behavioral and situational questions on influence, conflict, and cross-functional collaboration; cultural fit is a real gate.
7. What they're really testing. Three signals carry the most weight: product thinking grounded in real user problems in design and engineering workflows; data-driven decision-making, where you back choices with metrics; and collaborative impact, where you clearly separate your individual contribution from the team's (the recruiter's explicit "we vs me" advice).
