Astranis runs a relatively casual but deep loop that usually spans about 19 days: a recruiter screen, a hiring manager round, then an onsite series (role-specific work plus behavioral and a cross-discipline conversation), often capped by a director interview, with PM and similar non-engineering candidates frequently asked to build and present a deck. The one thing that defines the loop: interviewers go deep, not wide, drilling into one or two of your real stories with blunt follow-ups to confirm you actually drove the work rather than rode along.

The interview process

1. Recruiter screen (30 min). A call to walk through your background, the role, and logistics. Early read on motivation and whether your goals line up with a five-day-in-office, mission-first, long-hours environment.
2. Hiring manager interview (45 to 60 min). A deep conversation about your past work and how you think. Astranis digs into the details of one or two stories to see whether you identified the problem yourself, who else was involved, and what you would do differently now.
3. Take-home or deck preparation. Candidates report being asked to create a deck or project breakdown to present later in the loop. For PM-type roles this is where you show structured thinking on a real problem, not just slide polish.
4. Onsite series (multiple rounds). A set of back-to-back rounds: role-specific work sessions, a behavioral round, and a cross-discipline interview where you explain your thinking to a non-engineer. They test clear communication across technical and non-technical audiences.
5. Director interview (final). A closing conversation with the department director on fit, mission alignment, and how you would contribute. This round weighs whether you treat the work as a calling and can handle the pace.
6. What they're really testing. Three signals carry the most weight: real ownership (did you drive the work or just sit near it, proven through relentless follow-up questions), genuine mission and culture fit (they minimize bad hires even at the cost of passing on strong candidates), and clear cross-functional communication (explaining substance plainly to engineers and non-engineers alike).
