Activision PM interview guide

Activision (part of Activision Blizzard / Microsoft) runs a multi-round PM interview that blends standard product competencies with a heavy emphasis on genuine gaming passion, player experience, and free-to-play monetization for titles like Call of Duty. Expect a recruiter screen, hiring-manager and panel rounds, and questions that probe both how you think about products and how deeply you understand and play their games.

The interview process

1. Application. Apply on the Activision Blizzard careers site for a role matching your background. Roles are largely Zoom-based for interviews; senior PM postings typically expect ~5 years of product experience and a track record of improving metrics.
2. Recruiter screen. A 20 to 30 minute phone call with a recruiter to gauge interest, walk through your background, and assess culture fit. The recruiter may also line up a follow-up with a senior manager in the relevant department.
3. Hiring manager and team interviews. One-on-one and progressively senior conversations (often a junior team member, then a senior/hiring manager) covering your product experience, collaboration, gaming knowledge, and product thinking. Activision explicitly recommends answering behavioral questions with the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) and backing examples with data.
4. Panel and 'super day' rounds. Two or more interviewers (hiring manager plus cross-functional partners and senior management) cover a mix of behavioral, technical, strategic, and situational questions. Some candidates report a longer onsite-style 'super day' meeting many stakeholders; design/case discussions may be challenged and built on live. Note: APM candidates have reported lengthy processes (6 rounds / 11 people over ~3 months), so plan for a multi-week timeline.
5. Outcome. The team makes a hiring decision and the recruiter communicates the result.
