23andMe's PM loop runs about 3 to 6 weeks across roughly four stages: a recruiter screen, a technical or hiring-manager phone interview, a take-home assignment, and an onsite of several one-on-ones built around presenting that take-home or a past project. The one thing that defines it: it is execution and stakeholder heavy, with only one true product-sense round, so most of the signal comes from how you launch real products and manage cross-functional tension, not from whiteboard product design.

The interview process

1. Recruiter screen (30 min). Phone call with a recruiter on your background, why 23andMe, and your read of the mission of turning genetic data into health products. Checks baseline fit and communication before you move on.
2. Technical or hiring-manager phone interview (45-60 min). A deeper call covering your PM approach, how you use data to drive decisions, and past projects. Probes whether your experience matches the level and the health/genetics domain.
3. Take-home assignment plus presentation. You get a product challenge tied to 23andMe's products and prepare a written deliverable and a deck. They judge analytical depth, structure, and how clearly you defend the rationale behind your choices.
4. Onsite loop (multiple 1:1s). Several back-to-back interviews with PMs, engineers, and sometimes execs, where you present the take-home or a past project and field behavioral and situational follow-ups. Most rounds are behavioral/situational with a single dedicated product-sense interview.
5. What they're really testing. Three signals carry the most weight: end-to-end execution (shipping real products from concept to launch and owning the metrics), cross-functional stakeholder management (resolving conflicts between marketing, engineering, and research and handling urgent leadership requests), and data-driven product judgment in the health and genetics domain.
