ElevenLabs PM interview guide

ElevenLabs runs a 4 to 5 stage loop that typically completes in 2 to 4 weeks: recruiter screen, a take-home or async assessment, one or two technical or domain interviews, a case study, and a founder or co-founder calibration call. The one defining feature is that there is no dedicated behavioral round; instead, behavioral and motivation questions are woven into every stage.

The interview process

1. Recruiter screen (30 min). A phone or video call covering your background, motivation for applying, and an overview of the role and process. The recruiter probes for genuine interest in ElevenLabs' mission and checks for the autonomous, self-driven profile the company favors.
2. Async assessment (1 hour, take-home). Sent immediately after the recruiter screen passes. For PM-adjacent and technical roles this is a structured written or product exercise delivered via Google Docs or a similar tool; for engineering roles it is a timed coding screen on CoderPad or CodeSignal. PMs are expected to demonstrate structured product thinking rather than raw coding ability.
3. Hiring manager interview (45 to 60 min). A deep dive into your past projects, with emphasis on work you owned or led end-to-end. The interviewer assesses product instincts, ownership, and whether you can speak in concrete outcomes rather than team-credit language. Behavioral questions are embedded here, not separated.
4. Case study or peer interview (45 to 60 min). A hypothetical product or customer scenario is presented and you are asked to mock up a solution or walk through your reasoning live. For PM roles this functions as the product-sense and execution round combined. A peer interview covering cross-functional collaboration may also appear at this stage.
5. Founder or co-founder calibration call (20 to 30 min). An unstructured, high-stakes conversation with a co-founder or the CTO covering your background, motivation, and deeper technical or strategic questions. Candidates report this round is fast-paced and loosely structured; it often ends the loop and functions as a final bar-raiser check.
6. What they're really testing. Three signals dominate: (1) individual ownership: can you show work you drove alone, not shared credit with a team; (2) mission conviction: do you genuinely care about voice AI and ElevenLabs' specific products, not just AI broadly; and (3) autonomous execution: can you operate without process scaffolding in a flat, fast-moving org.
