Aurora Innovation runs a fairly short loop for product roles, usually three stages over about 27 days: a recruiter screen, a hiring manager round, and an onsite panel of about three back-to-back interviews. The one thing that defines it is heavy weight on communication and mission fit: Aurora wants to see you explain complex technical work to non-technical people and show you genuinely care about self-driving safety, not just the product mechanics.

The interview process

1. Recruiter screen (30 min). A phone call on your background, the role, logistics, and comp. Reported as quick and easy; it is a fit-and-motivation filter, with a clear read on whether you care about the autonomous-vehicle space.
2. Hiring manager interview (about 30 min). Mostly behavioral, run by the hiring manager. Aurora probes past projects, teamwork, and how you handle challenge and change, and looks for real interest in self-driving technology.
3. Onsite panel (about 2 to 2.5 hours, ~3 interviews). Three back-to-back rounds with team members covering critical thinking, analysis, and communication. For product candidates this is where you reason through ambiguous problems out loud and prove you can translate technical detail for non-technical stakeholders. Some candidates are offered a take-home assignment as a swap for one live round.
4. What they're really testing. Three signals carry the most weight: (1) communication, can you make complex, data-heavy work clear to a non-technical audience and adapt your style per stakeholder; (2) mission and safety alignment, do your values fit a company where everyone owns safety and the work is self-driving freight; (3) structured problem-solving under ambiguity, how you frame a problem, analyze it, and land on impact.
